Aesthetics: 10/10

Stunning whitewashed casitas dot the Chablé Maroma property, about 40 of them (a few are multi-bedroom villas, but the majority boast king or two double beds). Each casita has a private plunge pool and outside terrace (which you’ll definitely appreciate in the Yucatan heat), a huge bedroom, and a bathroom so large I could move in tomorrow.

Comfort: 9/10

The only dings on comfort I can give are: no bathtub and no minibar to speak of. As someone addicted to baths and KitKats, both are detractions for me. The overall experience is so stellar, though, I’ll overlook those for next time (although I may smuggle in my own chocolates).

Food: 10/10

As at Chablé Yucatan, the food is a high priority here. It’s rare for the pool menu to be a trip highlight, but I can honestly say I’m still tasting the homemade hummus and chips I ordered daily.

Bar: 10/10

Ten out of ten strictly for the delicious margaritas and the speed with which the pool staff replenished them.

Spa: 9/10

After a wee service wobble on my first try, I went back for a second and had the ecstatic experience I’d been expecting. I opted for a traditional Mayan herbal poultice massage and it. was. heavenly.

Service: 10/10

Another metric that I’d love to bump up to an 11, if only for this single anecdote: at dinner our second night, the waiter noticed how much my husband loved mezcal (we did a couple of flights to try a variety). The next night? He’d brought his favorite mezcal from home for us to try.

Worth Going Out Of Your Way For:

Absolutely. If what you need is a boutique beach/spa getaway, this is the place. While there were a few couples with small children there, it’s not idea for families unless you can spring for one of the 3-BR Presidential Villas. Otherwise, it’s perfect for romance, solo trips, or friend getaways.

Narrative:

I’d just spent several days at a travel conference at one of Riviera Maya’s largest resort complexes and, while I love those conferences and the connections I make, they’re always exhausting.

I couldn’t wait to have Mr. A join me for a few days of rest and relaxation after the conference, and knew from the first that I wanted to detox from the conference at Chablé Maroma. It was everything we wanted and then some - beautiful, clear beach (they deliberately left the trees on the beach when the property was built, so instead of a cabana, you spread out on a lounger under a cool leafy canopy); incredible service; delicious food.

Just know this property isn’t all-inclusive so all that delicious food & drink will be added to your tab at the end of your stay.

While You’re In The Area:

Seriously, don’t leave the property. You could take a quick jaunt to Playa del Carmen for dinner one evening, but I would just stay put and pretend you never have to go home.

Don’t Take Our Word For It:

A rare Mexican beach hotel that takes wellness and spirituality as seriously as it does poolside mezcal cocktails.

[T]he look…is raw yet refined; amplifying the nature all around…[t]he rooftop bar at Bu’ul is a top spot for sipping mescal at sunset - but be warned, it’s hard to drag yourself away from the view.
