Aesthetics: 10/10

A stunning combination of simplicity and baroque detail, the aesthetic of Hotel Mercer Sevilla was very much up the Anthology Edit alley. From the original marble staircase to the delicate iron framework of the atrium windows, sumptuous details keep the spare color palette and unfussy floor plan from feeling chilly.

Comfort: 10/10

Every piece of furniture, from the sofas in the lobby to the incredibly comfortable bed, were pieces I would gladly furnish my home with, and I don’t know what higher praise I can bestow.

Food: 10/10

No novice to the hotel breakfast, I was still blown away by the selection and quality of the Mercer’s breakfast spread. A yummy buffet stocked with granola, cereals, charcuterie, tiny bocadillos, and the best fruit salad of my life was supplemented by light, creamy egg dishes and sweets that managed to seem both healthy and sinful at once.

Bar: 8/10

The bar was perfectly fine; my only knock on it is that it’s quite small and didn’t appear to be manned all day long. But it’s quite cozy - just off the lobby door but cocooned in velvet drapery - and the drink offerings were clever and plentiful.

Spa: N/A

No spa services (but I’d throw in some bonus points for the beautiful rooftop pool and sundeck).

Service: 10/10

Outstanding across the board; no one seemed to have a particular job description - rather, everyone we interacted with was perfectly happy to serve our breakfast, check us in, run up an ironing board, or bring our room service. Delightful team.

Price Point:

$$$$$

Worth Going Out Of Your Way For:

Absolutely. Assuming your wallet can stand the price point, this hotel is at the top of the list for Sevilla, even keeping in mind the abundance of great hotels in this small city.

Most of the hotel incorporates elements that are contemporary with the building but retrieved from other sites; the staircase is the only completely original element.

I’m sure there are other rooftop pools in Sevilla, but with this one on offer, why look anywhere else?

Narrative:

Exhausted after a week of conference networking and meetings, Hotel Mercer Sevilla was a welcome respite…I think I probably waited five minutes after getting into my room before filling up the tub in the space-agey white bathroom, dropping in the provided bathbomb, and soaking my cares away.

In the span of three weeks, I stayed in four hotels in Sevilla. Hotel Mercer Sevilla was by far my favorite - the service, the super-comfy bed, delicious breakfast, and rooftop pool make it a no-brainer. The location is terrific; close enough to the main tourist drag to make it easy to see the sights, but tucked away on a tiny side street so it’s dead quiet.

Even given the abundance of terrific hotels in Sevilla, Hotel Mercer Sevilla is at the top of my list, particularly for clients who appreciate that extra touch from the staff, or are in tune with the aesthetic.

While You’re In The Area:

Head to Petit Comité for a meal (we opted for a lovely long lunch); plenty of authentic tapas joints in the area. Don’t miss the Real Alcazar (still where the Spanish Royal Family stays when in town), especially if you’re a Game of Thrones fan - it doubled as the Water Gardens of Dorne.

Don’t Take Our Word For It:

“The hotel’s style marries a traditional Andalucia casa palacio from the late 19th century – noble façade with wrought-iron balconies, deliciously glamorous curved marble staircase, magnificent light-filled patio with glass panelling, grand arches and fountain – with bang-up-to-date European furnishings. The architects’ minimalist chandelier which hangs above the patio complements the original building’s lines, acting as both a contemporary light installation and focal point.”
